L’articolo prende spunto dal fascicolo 64 di «allegoria» e in particolare dall’importante saggio di Raffaele Donnarumma Ipermodernità: ipotesi di congedo dal postmoderno. Del saggio vengono discussi il metodo storiografico e la tesi principale che con con la fine del secolo e l’inizio degli anni Zero il postmoderno sia terminato, e che il nuovo periodo si possa chiamare, accettando una proposta di Gilles Lipovetsky, “ipermodernità”.

L’autore ribadisce la necessità di distinguere fra postmodernità e postmodernismo; ripercorre poi il lungo cammino storico che ha avuto inizio con la modernità, e che è stato caratterizzato da due grandi svolte epocali: quella della modernità, fra Sette e Ottocento (la «modernità solida» secondo Zygmunt Bauman), e quella della postmodernità, nella seconda metà del Novecento (la «modernità liquida» di Bauman). Vengono analizzate a fondo le tesi di Bauman e di Lipovetsky e le letture, alcune accettabili, altre meno, che Donnarumma propone di testi e poetiche della letteratura prodotta nella nuova temperie storica.

The article is a comment on the issue 64 of «allegoria» and particularly on the important essay by Raffaele Donnarumma titled Ipermodernità: ipotesi di congedo dal postmoderno. The article discusses Donnarumma’s historiographic methodology and takes issue with the essay’s main thesis that the end of the Twentieth century and the beginning of the years Zero saw the end of the period of postmodernity. It also criticizes Donnarumma’s endorsement of the proposal by the French sociologist Gilles Lipovetsky to call the new historical period “hypermodernity”. According to Ceserani, there have been only two great epochal transformations in the last two centuries: that of modernity, between the Eighteenth and the Nineteenth centuries («solid modernity», according to Bauman); that of postmodernity, in the second half of the Twentieth century («liquid modernity» according to Bauman). The author also discusses Bauman’s and Lipovetsky’s theories as well as the interpretations, some acceptable some less so, given by Donnaruma of a number of texts and literary theories produced in the recent years.
